At the start of each player's turn, that player chooses a number for X. Both players put X cards from their hand on the bottom of their deck in any order, or their entire hand if they have less than X cards in it. Both players put the top Y cards of their deck into their hand, where Y is the number of cards that player put on the bottom of their deck.
